What Type of "Tall" Are You? - Poll

The most ridiculous thing I ever see are signs that say "one size fits all". Are you telling me I should wear the same size as my 5'3" tall mother-in-law? I DON'T THINK SO! We learned years ago to never go clothes shopping together.
And, you can't slap a tag on clothes labeled "tall" and expect it to fit all tall people. There are all kinds of different tall shapes and sizes. My biggest pet peeve is when clothing stores stick a "tall" tag on and don't include a tall size chart. Tall inseams can vary from 31" - 42" long. It can be very confusing to sort it all out.
Here we go with generalization again, but I think for the most part, all of us tall people can be sorted into one of the following categories of different tall body types.
  1. All Long Legs. Yep, you have mile long legs. Your legs make up your height. You could have an average torso length or even a short torso length.  A lady at a conference started a conversation with me and told me that she had a 37" inseam length. I wouldn't even have considered her "tall" as she may have been around 5'7". I didn't believe her, so she pulled up her long tunic to her waist and sure enough she had really long legs and an almost non-existent torso.
  2. All Long Torso - You may have average length legs or even short legs. Take Mike, from Twitter. He is 6'8" long with just a 32" inseam. I mentioned to him that's the longest torso length I've ever heard of. He agreed and finding long enough tops is a real challenge. You poor people have a challenge fitting in cars and seats as they just aren't made for your long backs.
  3. Balanced Tall - This is the group of people that have both long legs and long torsos. I fall into this category as I am 6'1" tall and have a 35" inseam length. My torso is also long and tall shirts are needed also.
Let's see where you fall in the spectrum of tall? Please take our survey.

Tall Man of The Day - Tim Tebow

Can we get enough of Tebow? As Dever Broncos fans my family says "NO!"  We love him!
So we're calling Tim Tebow our Tall Man of the Day!

According to Wikipedia Tebow is 6'3" tall. Lately we've learned a few things about him that we didn't know.
  • He was born in the Phillippines to American parents who were serving as Baptist missionaries.
  • Tebow was home schooled.
  • In high school Tebow played for a team that ran more than they passed the ball, so he moved to an apartment to be able to attend a high school where he could show off his quarterback skills. This was a controversial move.
  • During high school he spent his Summers in the Philippines helping in his father's orphanage and doing missionary work
  • Tebow was the first home-schooling athlete to be nominated for the Heisman award.
  • Before each Bronco game Tebow visits with a handicapped or sickened child or someone that has had a hard life. We love that he's so humble and personable!
Below my boys are "Tebowing" and as fans we must say "Go Broncos!"

Calling All Tall People for a New TV Show!

extra tall people acting jobs I was just sent info about a new documentary television show on tall people! Here is the info:

Gay Rosenthal Productions, the Emmy nominated producers behind "Little People, Big World", are casting an exciting new series TALL! The show will explore the offbeat and often-complex lives of a family or individual with a dramatic physical difference: above average height.
If you are a tall family with some of your members at least 6'6" tall, you may be the next famous family!

The show will explore the offbeat and often-complex lives of a family or individual with a dramatic physical difference: above average height.

Casting Directors are looking for people of towering height who are willing to share their stories on a television series to be aired on a major cable network. The show will feature a family of tall people, an individual and/or a group of tall people, with members at least 6’6”. (Though not everyone in the family needs to be tall.)
It’s not easy being tall... The series will address the large set of unique challenges that tall people face every day, from custom-tailored clothes to adapting to a world not made for people of exceptional height. The show aims to explore the fascinating daily lives and journeys of unique and very tall people.

If interested please email: casting.jenniferdyal@gmail.com with name, age, height, location, a brief bio, and please include several recent photos of you and family if applicable.

This could be a great opportunity for extra tall people and possibly their family. It appears I am too short for this one!

Martha Stewart Tall Show Recap

For those of you who may have missed the "Martha Stewart Tall Show", here is a recap.

  • Arianne Cohen, the author of "The Tall Book: A Celebration of Life From On High" discussed advantages tall people have such as, on average earning more than co-workers. She also claimed that people around the world have the same height potential, but that good nuturition and health can help you be taller. I'm not sure if I entirely agree with her height nutrition claims, but I haven't done enough research. It seems to be genetics in my family.
Check out the website http://www.seatguru.com/ next time you are traveling. Fly on airlines that have at least 34" between seats to allow more leg room.
  • Lisa Butcher of Long Tall Sally put on a women's tall fashion show. To see the fashions featured on the show, click here.
  • Martha Stewart showed the butcher block kitchen counter we previously blogged about.
  • Alain Roby, a pastry chef, made a very tall cake.

I enjoyed the show, but would have liked to have more discussion with tall people and issues we face or advantages we enjoy! I would have loved to be there!
What did you think of the show?

Hotel Rooms for Tall People

I have never thought about searching for hotel rooms for tall people as most beds are made long enough for me. However, this could be an uncomfortable problem for extra tall people. I have heard of some people pulling up a chest or table at the end of the bed to accommodate long legs that are hanging off of the bed. What a pain!

I was looking through a blog called, "Tales of a Tall Girl" and noticed that she had a link to Kimpton Hotels. They have specially made 96 inch long beds made for tall travelers. You have to ask for "a tall room" when making your reservation. View more info and cities that have hotel rooms for tall people.
